1. Who We Are

Creelo is an AI-powered video editor that lets creators generate, edit, and export video content. We are based in Ghana and serve creators across Africa and globally. References to "Creelo", "we", "us", or "our" in this policy refer to the Creelo service and its operators.

2. Information We Collect

Account information

When you create an account, we collect:

• Email address
• Display name
• Profile picture (if you sign in with Google)
• Account creation date and last login time

Project and media data

Your projects — including scene structure, timeline data, text elements, effects, and settings — are stored on our servers so you can access and sync them across devices. Media files you upload (videos, images, audio) are stored in Cloudflare R2, our cloud storage provider.

AI-generated content

When you use AI generation features (video, image, voice, music), your prompts and settings are sent to our AI providers for processing. The generated outputs are stored in Cloudflare R2 and linked to your account. We retain this content to power your generation history and allow you to re-use assets across projects.

Credits and billing

We track your credit balance, credit transactions (purchases, usage, refunds), and subscription status. Payment processing is handled by Polar and Paystack — we do not store your full card number, bank account details, or mobile money PINs. We receive only the transaction confirmation and amount.

Usage data

We collect anonymised analytics about how you use Creelo — which features are used, session duration, general geographic region (country level) — to help us improve the product. We use Databuddy for this, which does not track individual users or store personal information.

Technical data

Standard web server logs including IP address, browser type, and pages visited. These are retained for up to 30 days for security and debugging purposes.

3. How We Use Your Information

• To provide and operate the Creelo service
• To sync your projects and media across devices
• To process AI generation requests and return results to you
• To manage your credit balance and process payments
• To send you important account-related emails (receipts, security alerts)
• To respond to your support requests
• To improve the product using anonymised usage analytics
• To detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents

We do not use your content (projects, videos, images, audio) to train AI models. We do not use your data for advertising. We do not sell your data to third parties.

4. Third-Party Services

Creelo uses the following third-party services to operate. Each handles data under their own privacy policies:

• Cloudflare R2 — cloud storage for your uploaded media files and AI-generated assets. Data is stored on Cloudflare's infrastructure.
• WaveSpeed AI — AI model provider used for video, image, and audio generation. Your prompts and media references are sent to WaveSpeed for processing.
• PoYo AI — AI model provider used for certain video and music generation models. Your prompts and media references are sent to PoYo for processing.
• Polar — subscription and payment platform used for credit purchases and plan management.
• Paystack — payment platform used for mobile money, bank transfers, and card payments in African markets.
• Better Auth — authentication infrastructure for account management and session handling.
• Google OAuth — optional sign-in method. If you use Google sign-in, Google's privacy policy applies to that authentication step.
• Vercel — hosting and serverless infrastructure for the Creelo application.
• Databuddy — anonymised, privacy-first analytics to help us understand product usage.
• Upstash Redis — used for rate limiting and caching to protect the service.

5. Data Retention

• Account data — retained for as long as your account is active. Deleted within 30 days of account deletion.
• Projects and media — retained until you delete them or delete your account. Deletion from our systems within 30 days of request.
• AI-generated assets — retained in your account until deleted. Temporary files uploaded for transcription are deleted within 7 days of processing.
• Credit transactions — retained for 7 years for accounting and legal compliance.
• Server logs — retained for up to 30 days.

6. Data Security

We use industry-standard security measures to protect your data, including:

• TLS/HTTPS encryption for all data in transit
• Encrypted storage for sensitive account data
• Access controls limiting which team members can access production data
• Regular security reviews of our infrastructure

No system is completely secure. If you believe your account has been compromised, please contact us immediately at privacy@creelo.app.

7. International Data Transfers

Creelo is primarily built for African creators, but our infrastructure providers (Cloudflare, Vercel, WaveSpeed, PoYo) may process data in the United States and other countries. By using Creelo, you consent to your data being transferred to and processed in these countries, which may have different data protection laws than your country of residence.

We take reasonable steps to ensure appropriate safeguards are in place when transferring data internationally.

8. Your Rights

You have the following rights regarding your data:

• Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
• Correction — update your account information at any time through your profile settings
• Deletion — delete your account and all associated data through settings, or by contacting us
• Data portability — export your project data in standard formats
• Objection — object to processing of your data for certain purposes

To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@creelo.app. We will respond within 30 days.

9. Children's Privacy

Creelo is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us at privacy@creelo.app and we will delete it promptly.

10. Cookies and Local Storage

We use cookies and browser storage for:

• Keeping you logged in across browser sessions (authentication cookie)
• Storing your editor preferences and UI settings (localStorage)
• Caching project data locally for offline access and performance (IndexedDB)

We do not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking cookies. You can clear cookies and browser storage at any time through your browser settings, though this will log you out.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. When we make significant changes, we will notify you by email or by displaying a notice in the Creelo application. Continued use of Creelo after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
